Blackwood, NJ -- Cougars continue hot streak, beat rival
CCC MBB (17-9) earned a big rivalry victory on Tuesday night, defeating Rowan College of South Jersey–Cumberland (9-16), 80–70. With the victory, the Cougars improve to 17–9 overall and continue their strong late-season push, having won 7 of their last 10 games.
In a matchup fueled by intensity and physical play, the Cougars reveled at the opportunity to secure another road win. After a slow start, they were able to rally and get on track, eventually controlling the pace in the 1H. They converted key plays and capitalized on transition opportunities to create a lead and build the requisite momentum heading into the break leading 34-27.
In the 2H, the physical nature of the game intensified as both teams battled for supremacy. Camden responded with poise, delivering timely baskets and locking in defensively down the stretch. The Cougars outscored Cumberland 46-43 in the 2H, largely due to their ability to stay composed and execute their game plan.
Overall, the Cougars finished the game with 23 total assists, which is tied for their most all season long. They executed well down the stretch, handling Cumberland's pressure and were disciplined at the free-throw line, helping seal the 10-point victory.
Istavan Norwood (Dover, DE) contributed 21 and 4 rebounds. Zha'Mere Crawford (Wilmington, DE) registered a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists.
Kai Gatson (New Castle, DE) and Kevin Satchell (Brooklyn, NJ) combined for a total of 28 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists. Collectively, the pair was efficient from the floor (10-21, 3-5 3PM) and shouldered most of the bench production for Coach Lou Abbattista.
The win marks another important step forward for a Cougars squad that has found its rhythm as the postseason approaches. Camden's balanced scoring attack and defensive intensity have been key factors during its recent stretch of success.
Now 17–9 on the season, the Cougars will look to carry their momentum into their next matchup as they continue to build toward the postseason.
Next up, The Cougars will travel to Salem, NJ on Thursday to face off against top-ranked Salem Community College (27-1).
