Blackwood NJ -- Camden MBB uses utilizes balanced scoring effort to beat #9 Union
In a gutsy performance that showcased defense, poise, and clutch shooting CCC MBB (11-3) delivered one of the program's best victories of the season, knocking off #9-ranked Union (19-7) by a final score of 73-68 on Saturday afternoon.
Union found itself in a tightly-contested match-up from opening tip to the final buzzer, as Camden (now with four wins in its last five games) used balanced scoring and a tough defensive effort to pull out the win.
Camden came out aggressively, setting the tone with physical defense and precision execution on offense. The Cougars used crisp ball movement and timely shot making to build an early lead that they would never relinquish.
Union battled back in the second half, cutting the lead to within a single possession multiple times, however Camden was able to answer every challenge with key baskets and defensive stops.
The victory was a true team effort as Camden got contributions from multiple Cougars with 5 of them scoring in double-digits. The defense, which has been the most consistent unit for Coach Lou Abbattista, held Union to just 27 1H points.
Clutch offensive possessions, free-throw shooting and rebounding in the final minutes of play helped preserve the lead, igniting the Cougar bench and keeping Union at bay.
This win marks Camden's fourth victory in its last five games, a stretch that has seen the team string strong performances together, both at home and on the road. Prior to this game, Camden has battled through a challenging second half of the season with a multitude of road games in consecutive weeks. Grinding out close wins and learning to close games with poise are lessons that clearly paid off against Union.
Freshman Forward, Istavan Norwood (Dover, DE) continues his stellar campaign, contributing 18 points and 5 rebounds.
Freshman Guard, Zha'Mere Crawford (Wilmington, DE) also continues his strong streak of games, scoring 11 points and adding 4 rebounds and 3 assists. He also registered 2 steals, which is his 7th straight game with at least 2 steals.

With the calendar turning toward the final stretch of the season, Camden now moves past Union in the standings with a 11-3 Region XIX record. The victory over a top-10 opponent not only improves the Cougars' résumé but also galvanizes the locker room with a belief that they can compete with anyone on a given night.
The Cougars (16-9) now turn their attention to crosstown foe, Rowan College of South Jersey-Cumberland (9-15) as they prepare for their Tuesday evening matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
