CAMDEN MBB WIN THIRD STRAIGHT
Cougars outlast Sussex, win 4th straight home game
Blackwood, NJ -- Cougars improve to 10-2 at home
CCC MBB (14-8) continued its strong late season momentum on Monday, pulling out a hard-fought 79–73 win over Sussex County College (7-17). With the victory, the Cougars extend their winning streak to three and improve to 10-2 at Joseph Papiano Memorial Gymnasium.
Camden was able to create an early advantage largely due to their efficiency on the offensive end. They consistently found the open man (17 total assists), and did a nice job taking advantage of those opportunities. As a result, the Cougars' floor spacing and ball movement kept Sussex on its heels, while timely perimeter shooting and strong play in the paint helped sustain their advantage throughout the first half, leading to a 40-35 advantage going into halftime.
As the second half commenced, Camden was able to continue to their strong effort even as Sussex made adjustments and cut into the deficit. Sussex struggled to control the paint as the Cougars dominated inside, opening up quality shot attempts late in the second half.
Camden executed with precision, converting key baskets and securing defensive stops that ultimately proved decisive in the final stretch of the contest. Overall, for the seventh time this season, the Cougars were able to finish the game converting over 50% of their shot attempts.
Leading the scoring effort for Camden was Sophomore Forward, Mikey Campbell (Fayetteville, NC) who came off the bench and finished the game with a team-high 19 points (8-9, 2-3 3PT) and 4 rebounds.
Complementing that effort were strong contributions from the starters as three scored in double-digits. Freshman Guard, Kai Gatson continued his strong play of late with 16 points (5-12, 1-5 3PT), 7 rebounds, 4 assists & 4 steals. Istavan Norwood (Dover, DE) added 15 points.
With the win, CCC MBB improves its overall record to 14-8 (9-3 in conference) and continues to play well as the end of season approaches.
Camden (14-8) will now look to win their 4th straight as they host Luzerne CC (4-18) this evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.
