CAMDEN SUFFER 72-63 LOSS AT ESSEX
Cougars falter in 2H, drop second game in 26'
Blackwood, NJ -- Cougars offense falters in second half
In a competitive Region XIX matchup on the road, CCC MBB (9-6) battled throughout but ultimately came up short against Essex County College (7-9), falling 72–63.
CCC MBB did a good job out the gate playing at their desired pace and controlling tempo. They were ready for the physical matchup and played accordingly, ultimately contributing to them going into halftime with a 21-26 cushion.
However, Essex came out in the 2H with a new disposition, using timely scoring runs and stout defense to eliminate the Cougars lead. It was now the Cougars who were playing at a deficit, searching for ways to stymie the Essex offense and find their own rhythm offensively.
Unfortunately, Essex's balanced attack and ability to convert in key moments proved to be too much for the Cougars to handle as they were outscored 51-37 in the 2H.
The offensive explosion for Essex helped stave off CCC's comeback attempts and secure the nine-point victory. Fifty-one points is the most the Cougars have given up in a single half of basketball all season.
While the scoreboard reflected a competitive game, the stat sheet only told part of the story. The Cougars effort was evident in their determination to battle every possession and fight on the rebounds, ultimately out-rebounding their opponent by 11.
Nontheless, although the Cougars struggled to find consistency from the perimeter and convert enough high-percentage shots late, they continued to play hard until the final buzzer.
Offensively, the Cougars were paced by first year Forward, Zha'Mere Crawford (Wilmington, DE) who contributed 15 points on 6-10 shooting. He also added 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
Istavan Norwood (Dover, DE) added 14 points and 7 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Camden County College remains focused on the path ahead, looking to end their streak and get back in the win column. They travel to Philadelphia to take on Jefferson (JV) at 7pm.
