CAMDEN WBB SUFFER SETBACK, FALL AT HOME
Lady Cougars finish the season 13-11 (9-9 GSAC)
Blackwood, NJ -- Lady Cougars fall, finish season 13-11 overall
CCC WBB (13-11) battled fiercely on Sophomore Night but came up just short in a thrilling, 62-56 loss to Northampton Community College (18-8).
Camden came out the gate red hot offensively, creating an early, sizable lead. The Lady Cougars were able to routinely get into the paint and create quality opportunities at the rim and in transition. As a result of their strong play out the gate, they established a nine-point lead going into the 2Q.
However, in the 2Q, Northampton was able to find their rhythm and produce points. Midway through the quarter, with the Lady Cougars up 25-12, their offensive momentum was stymied. Northampton was able to trim the deficit to just three points heading into halftime with a score of 29-26.
Going into the 3Q, it was clear both of these clubs were evenly matched. While the Lady Cougars' continued their balanced scoring, keeping them ahead in the contest, Northampton was keeping pace. Going into the final quarter, Camden was able to hold onto a slim, 3-pt lead as both teams scored 17 points in the frame.
However, the 4Q proved to be quite the difference in this contest. Although Camden controlled the game for most of the quarter, holding a five-point lead with less than five minutes remaining, their offense faltered late. Northampton put real game-pressure on the Lady Cougars and were able to capitilize off their mistakes, scoring 17 total points to the Lady Cougars 10, which propelled them to the slim victory.
Anissa Spurlock (Willingboro, NJ) albeit in a loss, played determined basketball. Spurlock registered a double-double with 18 points and a season/career high of 15 rebounds. She also registered 6 steals, her 6th game in a row accumulating at least 4 steals.
Captain, Erica Paranzino was also strong in the loss - scoring 14 total points and dishing out 5 assists in what may potentially be her last game in Papiano Gymnasium.
As the season concludes, CCC WBB finishes the campaign with a 13-11 overall record (9-9 GSAC). The Lady Cougars now look forward to competing in the playoffs and await seeding information from Region XIX to determine who/where they will play.
