Camden thwart late comeback attempt, outlast CCP.
Blackwood, NJ -- Lady Cougars win tight match-up against CCP
Camden County College women's basketball team pulled off a hard-earned 67-63 victory over Community College of Philadelphia Tuesday evening, improving to 3-1 on the season.
Coming off a loss to a rival, the Lady Cougars were focused out the gate and looking to get back on track. Camden started the second quarter with a 13-10 lead before their offense erupted, scoring 23 points. This offensive spurt allowed the Lady Cougars to create and sustain a 36-24 lead going into halftime.
However, the Lions of CCP chipped away, scoring 27 total points in the 3rd quarter to Camden's 15. Their strong offensive outburst after halftime tested the resilience of the Lady Cougars and tied the game at 51-51 going into the 4th.
During a thrilling 4th quarter both teams were exhausting all efforts, looking to secure the win. The action was back and forth and neither team relented as the game went down to the wire. Fortunately for the Lady Cougars, strong play from their leaders allowed them to prevail and secure the home victory.
The Cougars' strong opening quarter gave them breathing room, and their ability to respond when CCP surged in the third quarter proved decisive.
Sophomore Guard, Erica Paranzino (Washington Township, NJ) was fantastic, scoring a career-high 25 points on 9/16 shooting from the field and 3/5 from behind the arc. She also contributed 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
Clara Pons de vall Ruiz (Vilassar de Mar, Spain) registered a double-double (11p, 11r, 5a, 2s) while Brianna Kemble (Blackwood, NJ) finished with 16p, 9r, 4a, 2s & 2b.
The Lady Cougars look to return to action for their first road game of the season on Tuesday, November 18th, 5pm @ Montgomery CC.
