CAMDEN MBB HANDED LOSS AT SALEM
Short-handed Cougars streak halted
Blackwood, NJ -- Short-handed Cougars fall on the road to top-ranked Salem
CCC MBB (17-10) traveled to Salem, NJ this past Thursday, taking on the top-ranked Salem Mighty Oaks (28-1). After an impressive 1H, the Cougars fell on the road, 76–48.
Playing with a limited rotation due to injuries and availability, Camden battled throughout the 1H, competing with the best Region XIX has to offer.
Despite being shorthanded, the Cougars competed on the defensive end and worked to control the tempo, forcing tough shots and battling on the glass. They went into the break trailing by just three points, 25-28.
Camden continued to fight throughout the second half, with several players logging heavy minutes and stepping into expanded roles.
The Cougars showed flashes offensively with strong drives to the basket and capitalizing on second-chance opportunities but struggled to consistently find rhythm against Salem's aggressive defense.
Salem would go on to outscore the Cougars 48-23 in the 2H, utilizing their depth and balanced scoring effort.
Despite the final margin, the effort and toughness displayed by CCC reflected the program's character. Going into the matchup the Cougars have been playing some of their best basketball of the season, winning 7 out of the last 10 games.
Istavan Norwood (Dover, DE) almost finished with a double-double (16 points, 9 rebounds) while Christian Durham (Glassboro, NJ) tied his season/career-high with 8 points.
Camden will look to regroup and get healthy as the team prepares for its next contest. CCC MBB (17-10) will host Northampton (22-4) this Saturday, 2/14. Tip-off is scheduled for Noon.
