CAMDEN SUFFER FIRST LOSS OF SEASON, FALL TO MUSTANGS
Men's Basketball Late Comeback Halted, Lose On The Road
Blackwood, NJ -- Camden Suffer First Lost of Season, Fall to Mustangs
Camden County College men's basketball team (4-1) suffered a tough defeat at the hands of Montgomery County Community College (3-1) Wednesday, handing Camden its first loss of the season.
Camden faltered offensively to start the game, as they faced a 12-2 deficit in the first few minutes. However, as they settled, the Cougars started to put points on the board and establish somewhat of a rhythm. Nonetheless, with Montco creating such an early lead, Camden struggled to close the gap and went into halftime down 10, 34-24.
In the second half, Camden came out with a better disposition, made adjustments and scored more points than their opponent (41-33). Late in the game the Cougars trailed by just 2 points with 14 seconds remaining and a chance to tie the game before a late turnover sealed their fate. Ultimately, overcoming the halftime deficit and surplus of turnover's proved just too difficult to overcome.
In his return from injury, Sophomore Forward Mikey Campbell (Fayetteville, NC) provided quite the spark. Campbell scored an efficient 21 points on 7/12 shooting and 7/8 from the FT line, while also registering 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals & a blocked shot.
Zha'Mere Crawford in just his third college game was very steady, scoring 16 points on 7-9 shooting from the field and 1/2 from behind the arc. Crawford also recorded 7 steals, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.
This setback comes after a hot start to the season by Camden, who entered the game with an undefeated mark. The loss will serve as a learning opportunity for the group, which will now look to regroup and bounce back in its next outing.
The Cougars are back at home this Saturday as they host Passaic CC at 2pm.
