Blackwood, NJ -- Cougars Prepare For Final Four
Camden County College baseball punched its ticket to the next round of the Region 19 playoffs with an impressive doubleheader sweep over Rowan College of South Jersey-Cumberland this past weekend.
Camden opened the day with a dominant 12-2 victory in game one, using a powerful offensive performance to take control early and never look back. The Cougars continued their momentum in game two, holding off a late push from Cumberland to secure a 6-5 win and complete the series sweep.
In the opener, Camden's bats came alive late in the game, scoring 12 total runs in the 6th and 7th inning, shell-shocking Cumberland after they led for most of the contest. After one run apiece in the first and second inning, Cumberland was left scoreless for the rest of the match-up, eventually culminating in the double-digit loss.
Timely hitting and aggressive base running helped Camden build an almost insurmountable late game lead before closing out the contest with the 10-run victory.
Game two proved to be more competitive, but Camden once again delivered in key moments. The Cougars built an early 3-0 lead until conceding five total runs to Cumberland in the 5th inning.
However, they remained focused and resilient, producing an additional three runs in the 6th to regain the lead. In the end, they were able to hold their advantage, relying on strong pitching and defensive execution down the stretch to preserve the 6-5 victory and advance to the final four.
With the sweep, CCC Baseball now turns its attention to the next challenge in the Region 19 playoffs.
Camden County College (27-15) are now set to face off against Brookdale Community College (41-10) on Thursday, May 14 at 3 p.m. The match-up will take place at Rutgers–Camden.
The Cougars will look to carry its postseason momentum into the matchup as the team continues its pursuit of a Region XIX championship.
