Cougars Wrestling Going to Iowa
The Camden County College Wrestling Team brought home some hardware on Saturday.
On Saturday, February 10, 2018 the Cougars Wrestling team traveled to Thaddeus Stevens to compete in the NJCAA Eastern District II Championship. This event is also the NJCAA National Championship qualifier and NJCAA Region XIX Championship. After everything was wrapped up on Saturday night the Cougars took home The NJCAA Eastern District II Runner-Up and NJCAA Region XIX Championship. Over the past 3 years the Cougars have either been Runner-Ups (2016 & 2018) or Champs (2017). The NJCAA Region XIX Championship marks the third consecutive year that the Cougars have won the Regional Championship. Head Coach Gary Papa was named the Region XIX Coach of the Year for the third consecutive year.
At the District Championship the Cougars had 9 wrestlers compete out of a possible 10 weight classes. The team qualified 8 wrestlers for the NJCAA National Championships. The results are as followed: (Note names that are bold have qualified for NJCAA National Championship event February 23rd and 24th in Council Bluffs, Iowa).
